Abstract

Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is a prevalent neurodegenerative condition, affecting millions of people globally, particularly in an aging population. It is characterized by the aggregation of beta-amyloid and tau proteins, leading to the progressive loss of cognitive functions. This study investigates the therapeutic potential of peptides and the amino acid lysine in modulating the pathological processes of AD. The methodology included a systematic review of articles published between 2010 and 2024, focusing on experimental and observational studies addressing the efficacy of these compounds. The results indicate that specific peptides can destabilize amyloid plaques, while lysine contributes to neuroprotection and the reduction of neuroinflammation. Despite the promising findings, the efficacy and safety in humans still require validation through robust clinical trials. The discussion emphasizes the importance of understanding the underlying molecular mechanisms and the need for new therapeutic interventions. It is concluded that, although peptides and lysine show significant potential, continued research is crucial to develop effective strategies for treating AD, aiming to improve the quality of life for patients
