Abstract

Background Thrombocytopenia is common among intensive care unit ICU patients The percentage declinein platelet count PPD rather than the absolute count has been shown to be a predictor of mortality Purpose To determine if changes in platelet count after a severe burn injury can be used as a predictor of outcome Material methods This is a retrospective descriptive study of patients admitted to the Burns ICU between the 1st January 2009 and 31st December 2013 The study included demographic hematological platelet count and microbiological data of patients
